If you are a trekking fan... next to the farmhouse starts the trail number 1 which will lead you within a few minutes to the ridge of the Cinque Terre. If you prefer to discover the surroundings with a mean of transport, you can reach the town center without any problems by car. From here trains and ferry boats go towards the 5 Terre, Lerici and Portovenere. Or you can go towards the Vara Valley or the Lunigiana, visit Carrara's marble querries and the close mundane Versilia.
What are the season's indicators in our farmhouse? The herbs' aura, the odoriferous basil, the evergreen olives, the rosmary, the myrtle, the laurel, which start right behind the house, and which will accompany you until the wood with its noises and bewitched hidden bogeys. The gentle sunbeams which during spring wake up the villages of the surroundings. The intense aura during incredibile days in autumn when on the other site of the hills “the sea shouts and shimmers”. The women's promising eyes, encased by the summer's warmth and stroked by the fresh breeze in the evening. The men's glossy eyes, when they uncork with a bit of fear a bottle of wine from the 5 Terre.
My grandfather was called Romualdo Attilio, but all knew him as “Tilan“. He was a big and goodly man with enormous hands and two big passions: the bread and the kitchen. Therefore he constructed a bakery and a restaurant. His passions have been passed on, therefore also if his bakery does not exist anymore, next to the farmhouse there is a small building which seems a doll's house with a very antique wood oven. Maybe you will be able to convince me of preparing bread and focaccia as at the time when the whole village woke up with the smell deriving from Tilan's bakery. Maybe you will also be able to convince me of preparing antique dishes of the tasty and simple kitchen of the region Liguria (which is still very important for my mother). If you do not succeed in convincing me, don't worry, just ask me for my advice concerning the best and most traditional restaurants of the zone.... you will not regret it.What to do? It is just beautiful to do nothing at all! Think about it! The whole day just doing nothing! Isn't it wonderful? Speak with someone or indulge in reminiscences, go for a walk or sleep long and relax, get up early in the morning in order to see what grew in the fields, read in the oak's shadow, play with the children (often we forget about it), enjoy the sunset with a good glass of wine. Help me with the preparation of bread and focaccia or discover with me mysterious places: maybe we will see the butterfly of San Lorenzo during summer; or we can prepare the campfire of San Giovanni and celebrate as they do in Lisboa with the incredible taste of grilled sardines. We can do a lot of things together, but let me repeat ones again: let us live without any commitments at least for a while.
